Confident and Killing It

My Confident and Killing It Journey:
I lacked confidence in myself due to extreme speaking impairment in Elementary School.
I recall when we were told to write a story, present the story and the best will be pasted on the notice board. I wrote my story, read the story to my classmates during an interactive session we had. One of my classmates told me that I won’t be able to read what I wrote publicly and that I should give her my story. I thought about it and believed what she said because I had self-doubt. Then, I gave her the story.
Guess what??!
The next day, the story was pasted alongside her face, class and a congratulatory message on the notice board. I was speechless.
My friend told me that while she went to present and submit her story, they were only told to submit the stories without presenting. I was so sad πŸ˜”πŸ’”.
After that experience, I told myself that I will not let the speaking impairment stop me from being a star.

Without confidence, we get stuck and if we get stuck, we can’t get started.

Joining the debate club in High School built my confidence so much. Sometimes, I marvelled at how the Judges (my teachers) would clap and cheer me so loudly. At the end, I was awarded a certificate for my performance.
One of my best experience in my Confident and Killing It journey was when I explained a topic boldly in class. My teacher couldn’t stop talking about how excellent I preformed. I was so happy ☺. This is one of my favorite memories as a student and it motivated me to climb higher in my academics.

Confident means having a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE:
β€’Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to grant you confidence in everything you do in life. For it is written, “Being Confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it until the day of Christ Jesus”(Philippians 1:6) and “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you” (Philippians 4:13). Amen! These are my favorite scriptures in the Bible πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ƒπŸ½.

β€’Experience: As we successfully complete tasks and goals, our confidence that we can complete similar task again increases. Gaining experience and taking the first step can be very difficult. Often, the thought of starting something new is worse than actually doing it. This is where planning, preparation, learning, knowledge, training and positive thinking can help.
Break down tasks into small, achievable goals. Make each goal fit SMART criteria, that is make goals Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timed. The better you are at doing something, the more confident you become.
β€’Use Daily Affirmations: examples; “I am amazing”, “I will never give up”, “I’m grateful for who I am” OR install the “I AM” app which can help in your daily affirmation.

Monitor your progress: The best way to reach your goals, big or small, is to break them into smaller goals and monitor your progress. Write down your goals, it will help you stay on course and build confidence as you see the progress you’re making in real life.
β€’Do The Right Thing: Ask yourself what the best version of yourself that you aspire to be, would do and DO IT. Your actions and decisions define your character.
β€’Exercise: Besides benefitting your health in general, exercise helps memory retention, improves focus, helps manage stress and prevent depression. It improves every aspect of your life. Create time to take good care of yourself.
β€’Practicing gratitude is a key to living a happy life.
β€’Practice Self-Love: When you fall in love with yourself, you’ll have confidence, no matter what happens in life because that will come from within.

β€’Be Fearless: If you set big goals and have big dreams, you’re going to feel overwhelmed, you’re inevitably going to feel like you can’t do it. In those moments, you have to look inside yourself, gather every ounce of courage you have and just keep going. Think about how much you want to achieve your goals, then put your fear to the side and keep going, one day at a time.
β€’Be assertive: Being assertive means standing up for what you believe in and sticking to your principles. Being assertive also means that you can change your mind if you believe it is the right thing to do, not because you are under pressure.

β€’Do more of what makes you happy: What do you love to do in your spare time? Do you love lying in your bed and watch interesting TV series or movies? Whatever it is you love, create time and space for it because you need time to recharge to be your best self. For me, I love writing & blogging and that’s what I’ve been doing.

β€’Find yourself a confident role-model:
Ideally this will be someone that you see regularly, maybe in real life or on social media, somebody with a lot of confidence who you’d like to mirror. Observe them and notice how they behave when they are being confident. How do they behave when faced with a problem or mistake? Learn from others who are successful in fulfilling the tasks and goals that you wish to achieve, let their confidence guide you. As you become more confident, then offer help and advice, become a role model for someone less confident.
